Who other than Suzuki Goro could have had the genial inspiration and the technical knowledge to create such a titanesque oeuvre? There are actually a few of those he has made over the years but each is a unique projection of the potter’s fertile spirit, and this one is the largest. The “patches” are made in the different traditional Mino pottery styles; Oribe, Yashichida, Shino, Setoguro... and put together to form this wonderful puzzle spiced up with the wabi-sabi flavor of ancient potteries ...click for details

If there ever was a chalice made for the tea ceremony, this magnificent chawan is it. This unique piece embodies the spiritual nature of the tea ceremony and brings it to a religious level. The bowl would feel at home on the soft tatami mat of a quieted tea ceremony room as well as on an altar in the obscurity of a sacred temple. Now imagine drinking from this divine vessel; that must be quite a transcending experience. This bowl is part of a series of Raku bowls which Suzuki Goro made in 20 ...click for details

Here is a beautiful example of his magical work, which shows why, in my opinion, he is one of the best Shino potters in Japan. In spite of the difficulty of making Shino ware, which has a very high loss rate, Suzuki Tomio has proven to be one of its masters. Born in Kyoto in 1948, he est ...click for details

Suzuki Tomio is, in my opinion, one of the best Shino potters in Japan. In spite of the difficulty of making Shino ware, which has a very high loss rate, he has proven to be one of its masters. Born in Kyoto in 1948, Suzuki Tomio established his first kiln in the southern suburbs of Kyoto, in the Yawata district, in 1988 and since 1989 specializes only in Shino-yaki. He has held expositions at major venues in Japan and has been the recipient of several awards. He is also featured in books wh ...click for details
