| Here is a very splendid set of three Ao-kutani (blue kutani) bowls dating from the Meiji period (1868-1912). Each bowl is signed Kutani Shoza, but I believe they were only inspired by the great artist and are not his work. Kutani Shoza (1816-1883) was a craftsman who contributed greatly to the revival and popularity of Kutani wares within Japan and abroad. He used imported enamels and Kutani techniques to create a unique style of decorated porcelains called Saishiki-kinrande (colored gold brocaded). Each bowl depicts the same views and motifs in beautiful details. There are only very few and minute spots with chipped off enamel, and the bowls are otherwise in perfect condition. They will be shipped in an old marked box (see picture). Dimensions: small bowl 18 cm x 7.5 cm (7.2 in x 3 in), Weight 450 g (15.8 oz); medium bowl 21 cm x 9 cm (8.4 in x 3.6 in), Weight 710 g (25 oz); large bowl 24 cm x 10 cm (9.6 in x 4 in), Weight 1040 g (36.4 oz) More pictures available on demand. | |||||||||||||||
