| Here is a very interesting Aka-oribe chawan (red oribe tea bowl). The rim has the characteristic emerald and blue tones of Oribe wares. The drawings depict the end of an arrow on one side and a target on the other. In a way, this martial motif is a reminder of the origin of Oribe pottery, which was greatly influenced by General Furuta Oribe (1544-1615), who saw beauty in asymmetrical and cracked tea vessels. Many warlords of Furuta’s era cultivated a keen interest for the tea ceremony. This particular bowl was made by a potter named Aisuke. Unfortunately, not much is known about him except that he produced a lot of Seto wares around the 1960’s. The chawan is signed, in perfect condition and will be shipped in a signed wooden box. Dimensions: 13 cm x 7.5 cm (5.2 in x 3 in); weight 390 g (13.7 oz) More pictures available on demand Please make sure you read my Sales Policy Page and kindly inquire if you have any question. | ||||||||||||||
