| This splendid wan (bowl) is the work of Suzuki Goro, a potter recognized throughout the world for his mastery of his craft and his prolific and playful creativity. Women, as a source of inspiration, have a privileged status in Suzuki Goro’s world. The potter often uses nudes as motifs or let the clay be expressed through their forms. A bowl is a very appropriate support for an expression of this adoration, for its shape is after all a symbolic echo of the feminine figure. The Yashichida Oribe tradition lends its soft shades to the attractive piece, which longs to be held. Although a wan is often used as a dish, I would recommend using this one as a casual drinking vessel for sake or tea, for a more intimate experience and to be faithful to the sexiness of the bowl. Suzuki Goro is a potter who goes beyond that usual appellation. He has developed a unique way of expressing himself through ceramics, basing his work on traditional styles from the Mino tradition: Shino, Oribe, Ki-Seto (yellow Seto), Setoguro (black Seto) and the Karatsu tradition. His works, which have a strong sense of individualism, include tea bowls with colorful painted cars and life size chairs, but he is also a master of more conventional pieces. In 2002, Suzuki Goro received the very prestigious Japan Ceramic Society Prize. The bowl is signed, in perfect condition and will be shipped in a signed wooden box. Dimensions: 11 cm x 6 cm (4.4 in x 2.4 in) The listed price does not include shipping and a 4% processing charge.
