Karatsu Chawan by Hirayama Kenji

The unpretentious form and colors of this Karatsu chawan (tea bowl) give it a subdued yet very appealing character; the same one tea masters of 16th century Japan appreciated in simple vessels, truer to the essence of Zen Buddhism. As with men, it is by looking at the foot that one can grasp the strength and richness of this bowl, well balanced and refined. The chawan was made by a potter named Hirayama Kenji, born in 1947. Hirayama established his kiln, called Nakanotsuji in the city of Karatsu, in 1971. The chawan is signed and in perfect condition. It will be shipped in a signed wooden box. Dimensions: 13 x 7.5 cm (1.2 x 3 in); weight 320g (11.2 oz) More pictures available on demand Please make sure you read my Sales Policy Page and kindly inquire if you have any question. Some of the pieces presented in this catalog may be acquired through an interest free payment plan.
