Hagi Chawan by Hamanaka Gesson

A sublime chawan (tea bowl), reminiscent of classic marble sculptures, though warmer and more inviting to the touch. This vessel has the noble air of an ancient work of art and the modern feel of a ware shaped by a contemporary designer. It was made by a potter, who has exposed in a multitude of venues and lands, from Tokyo to New York and Beijing, as an ambassador of Hagi pottery; a tradition with roots in the world of the tea ceremony and which has therefore a sense of the Now, that is eternal meaning. Hamanaka Gesson was born in 1943 in Osaka. In 1969, he founded his kiln, Oya-gama, in Hagi. The talented craftsman has been recognized by the Nippon Broadcasting Corporation as one of the 101 contemporary tea ceramists in a book published by that company; quite an honor. The chawan is in perfect condition. The potter’s seal appears under the glaze. The bowl will be shipped in a signed wooden box. Dimensions: 12 x 8.5 cm (4.8 x 3.4 in); weight 315g (11 oz) More pictures available on demand Please make sure you read my Sales Policy Page and kindly inquire if you have any question.
