Shino Chawan by Yamada Kazu
Here is a magnificent Shino chawan (tea bowl) by one of the masters of the genre: Yamada Kazu, a renowned contemporary Japanese potter. This vessel is everything that has ever been remarkable about Shino ware for more than four hundred years; the immaculate white glaze which let iron oxide markings shine through, the always intriguing yuzu hada (lemon skin), and the coarse clay carved in the raw. And the kodai (foot) offers a dynamic show of perfect balance between its elements. This splendid bowl stands strong in the lineage of ageless craftworks and sacred chalices.

Yamada Kazu was born in 1954 in a family of known Tokoname potters, his father is Yamada Kenkichi and his uncle is none other than Living National Treasure Yamada Jozan. Kazu was also influenced by many known potters like Koie Ryoji, Suzuki Osamu and the legendary Kato Tokuro with whom he maintained a close friendship until his death in 1985.

The chawan is signed and in perfect condition. It comes with a signed box. Dimensions: 13.5 cm x 9.5 cm (5.4 in x 3.8 in); weight 580g (20 oz)
