This splendid chawan is part of a wonderful collection of tea bowls acquired over many years by a private Japanese collector.
Tamura Koichi (1918-1987) was a potter who, along Hamada, Leach, Kawai, and the philosopher Yanagi Soetsu, took part in the Mingei (folk art) movement that was created in 1926 as a counterbalance to the industrialization of ceramics and the “snobbishness” of the world of tea ceremony ware. In 1986 he was designated Important Intangible Cultural Property (Living National Treasure) of Japan, in recognition for his work with iron glazes. Please inquire if you have any question. The chawan is in perfect condition; a chip on the lip of the bowl was professionally repaired with lacquer and gold (picture 7), and that actually enhances the beauty of the chawan, in true wabisabi fashion. It will be shipped in a signed box. The listed price includes shipping by EMS (with insurance and tracking). Dimensions: 15 x 7.5 cm (6 x 3 in) Please make sure you read my Sales Policy Page and kindly inquire if you have any question. Some of the pieces presented in this catalog may be acquired through an interest free payment plan. |
