Burmese Marionette Puppet Head
7.5” Height x 5.25” Width x 7”.5” Depth

This hand carved teakwood puppet head is at least 50 years old and features an articulated protruding 3” tongue operated by a cleverly concealed string. The head is in excellent condition with aged black and white patina and painted glass eyes.

Burmese (Myanmar) marionette theatre (yokthei pwe) was developed during the reign of King Bagyidaw in the early 19th century and was the forerunner of modern Burmese live theatre.
