Burmese Carved Teak Elephant Medicine Box
4.75” Length x 3” Width x 3.25” Height

This carved Burmese teakwood elephant was used to store medicinal herbs and is at least 80 years old. The well-worn red and black lacquer is classic to Burmese artistry. The elephant’s “hidden” storage compartment lacks a lid. Elephants are the most revered animals in Southeast Asian culture. So rare and sacred are these creatures that staffs of people or volunteers cater to its every (assumed) desire.
