Javanese Teak Folk Art Horse
9.75”Length x 2.25” Width x 9.625” Height This teakwood four-legged horse or deer-like figure is from Java, Indonesia and at least 70 years old. The graying patina has an underlying black lacquer that was stipple painted in white, yellow, brown, and gray-purple. There are touches of red in the joints. The whimsical elongated head has detailed carved eyes, nose, and mouth. The feet have distinct hooves and spur-like protrusions. The hand carved 7 (seven) loosely fitted sections are all original; however the ears and tail are missing (if they ever existed). There is minor cracking on back of the head and the hindquarters, plus, a 2 mm chip out of the rear right hoof. Otherwise, excellent condition.
