A large and highly impressive votive image made partly of gilt bronze (head and hands) and partly copper-repousee (body) depicting the important Kagyu lineage-holder Sharmapa, probably no. 8 in the succession Palchen Chokyi Dondub (1695–1732). The lama is seated in meditation posture holding a holy book in the left hand (now lost) and the other hand raised in the gesture of teaching. A powerful and quite rare wood image depicting Hayagriva, the wrathful emanation of Avalokiteshvara, with a horse head appearing from his skull, a dorje in his right hand; he is wearing a long necklace of skulls (the center, lower part is lost), he wears a human and elephant skin on his shoulders ( the lower, left corner of the “skin” is broken, old brake). H. 17 cm. (6,7 inches). Tibet, late 18th cent.

A finely carved boxwood image of a standing luohan (arhat), one of Buddha’s disciples. The figure is shown turned slight to one side while holding a wish-fulfilling septer (ruyi) in the crook of his right arm. The carving is coated in a deep, transparent reddish lacquer. Qing, 18th cent. H 18.5 cm. = 7.3 inches. With fitted old Japanese collector's box. Condition: Excellent w. only one minor age crack caused by the drying wood.

Ming, 16th cent. most probably Jiajing period (15521–1566). H 23 cm. Condition: Very fine with slight crack on the lower back part of base and minimal indentation
