A large porcelain figure (blanch de chine) of the Songzi Guanyin sitting on a cliff rising from the sea. On the right is the vase for the willow branch and on the left the Guanyin Scripture. She is flanked by Sancai and Longnu, and below the two dragons chasing the pearl. The image is hollow-sculpted from two parts. Qing, ca. 1800. H 35.5 cm. Impressive and large, lacquer-gilt bronze image depicting the God of Mt. Heng (Hengshan Gongjun) in Hebei, the northern peak in the Daoist system of Five Holy Mountains. He is seated on a low throne-like base holding fan and wish-fulfilling pearl and wears the garb of a heavenly official. The god can be so identified on the basis of the symbol (‘true form’) of the mountain placed on the lower robe between the god’s feet (see close-up). A set of five ink sticks with writing in gold and impressed figures of literati in landscapes and poetic inscriptions. In a nice, original box of wood and black lacquer with gold decoration and entitled: ‘Wulao tu mo (Ink with Images of the Five Old Ones).’ Fitted spaces for the ink inside and covered with two types of coarse silk. A extremely rare yab-yum image in tsa-tsa style of Red Jambala in union with his consort, the God of Wealth, manifestation of Vajrasattva, is embracing the consort Vasudhara. Remains of red, orange, brown, green and white colors and lacquer on clay. The god of wealth wears a turban-like crown on his head, and both figures a fully dressed.
