A very rare and interesting, Buddhist bronze ewer (kundika) in classical form w. rounded, oblong body, a short sprout and a long neck. Lid for the opening. There are three circling bands, two on the body and one on the neck. The sprout set with a raised lotus pattern. The piece is of relatively heavy casting and with remains of leaf gilding on black surface. A superb piece and a serious collector’s item. A highly attractive brush pot (bitong) made of a twisted and hollowed-out trunk of what appears to be cypress wood ( baimu ). Traces of old lacquer. Base and rim of attractively colored bone ( walrus = qiujue? ).Qing, late 18th to early 19th cent. H 14.5 cm. Condition: Excellent.

Carved on relief: on one side a proud male lion looking in the distance; on the other side, two lionesses (or tigers) attacking an hippopotamus; palm trees in the background. A very well carved and inscribed wooden tablet made for use in the family house, on the ancestor´s altar for worship the deceased husband . This ”spirit tablet” has the name of the man, Chun Fa from Lin Prefecture , and the name of the donor, the respectful wife Niang, born Song. In the inside it says that Chun Fa was born in the cyclical year of XianFeng, eleventh month, ninth day =1850, lived to the of forty two years and died in the cyclical year of Guangxu 1891. Image of Vairocana, the Cosmic Buddha, (Pilushana Fo or Dari Fo in Chinese), in brown patinated, cast iron. The Buddha’s hands are held in the gesture of abhiseka or initiation. With dedication: “The Monk Aijue.” Dated images of this type are known from the Jiajing period (1522-1566) of the Ming dynasty. Ming, 16th cent. H 35 cm. Corrosion, a few holes from imperfect casting ( typical of this kind of images ) and wear due to age.

A lobed and heavy porcelain, fruit bowl, decorated with flowers and crickets among garden rocks in familie-rouge palette. Inside covered with a bluish-green glaze. Tongzhi mark in the bottom and from the period (1862–74). Qing, 19th cent. H 8 cm, D 18 cm. Condition: Very good, minor wear to gold on rim and inside well.

A very fine and attractive toggle (similar to a Japanese manju) made of finely worked agate in ovoid form. Flat on both sides. Inside with ‘shadow’ of yellowish color. China, Qing ca. 1800. D 4.5 cm, H 1.8 cm. Condition: Excellent. Fine smooth wear all-over.
