A powerful carving of a single piece wood depicting a Daoist guardian god in military garb with one harm raised in threatening posture. China, second half of 19th cent. H 35.5 cm. Condition: Drying crack in the right side and missing lid for interior ‘power.’ Otherwise in a surprisingly good state, i.e. no worming, breaks or replacements.

A rare and nicely-preserved scholar’s writing brush with ivory handle and cap. Inscribed with artist’s signature and dated 1903 (or perhaps 1843). Massive cap. Total length with cap: 25 cm, brush length 19 cm. only cap length: 9,7 cm. Condition: Very good all-over. The brush handle is slightly bent. Note, cap with a thin hairline crack (see photo no. 6).

A nice, small brush pot (bitong) of huanghuali wood with characteristic pluck in the bottom. Very good ‘ghosts’ in the grain together with a dark, honey-color. Slightly tapering form. China, Qing, 17–18th cent. H 10 cm, D 8.5 cm. Condition: Fair. One hairline and a large chip on rim.

A fine, lobed lacquer tray, decorated with stylized landscape in takamaki-e, ashide in silver and shibuichi on nashiji ground. Original inscribed kiri tomobako. Late Edo period, c. 1850. 20 cm by 18,5 cm. Condition: very good with just very minor wear.

A fine and unusual Okimono of Mount Fuji with eagles and eggplants. The Fuji is made from a large piece of natural stag-antler; on the side of the Fuji are 2 well carved eagles also made from antler; one of the eagles is standing on three eggplants of different sizes made of dark hardwood. The okimono has a fitted base made of dark-redish hardwood. Signed in double red circle lacquer seal: SOSHITSU. Tomobako-box. H 12 cm x 14 x 8,5 cm. including base. Meiji period. Very good condition.
