Large and very impressive old Bizen image of Bodhidharma (Daruma), the legendary founder of Zen Buddhism. Powerfully sculpted with strong, full features and hollow body. Beautiful patinated surface. Edo, around 1800. H. 32 cm, W. 29 cm, D. 22cm. Condition: Perfect.

A Sino-Tibetan bronze figure of a Lama. It is of the type called "non-gilt bronze school". He wears the characteristic Pandita hat and holds a bowl in the left hand. The right hand is raised in the gesture of teaching. Remains of cold gilding on the face. Qing, 19th century, ca. 1825. H 13 cm. Condition: Minor losses to bottom rim. Not sealed.

A very charming and cute (kawai) figurine of a sleeping cat of the popular Kutani model. The cat has a large red bow around its neck, and the fur has been partly indicated in gold. The interesting feature of this piece is its small size, which is seldom seen. Red lacquered small box. Late Meiji to early Taisho. L. 6.5 cm. Condition: Perfect.

A highly interesting and impressive painting of a waterfall in minimalist rendering. Ink and faint colors on silk. Signed: Bunho (fl. Meiji), from Satsuma and a disciple of the Kyoto painter Bumpo. Old, unsigned kiri-box. Printed documentation accompanies the painting. Meiji, dated 1900. H. 114 cm, W. 36 cm. Full length 176 cm. Condition: Very good, but with some wear due to age and handling.

A pair of kakemonos depicting immortals in landskabes. Painted in ink and light colors on silk. Signed: Gabo = Suzuki Takeshi (1816-1870), a noted student of the famous Tani Buncho (1763-1840). Roberts, p. 28a. Fitted kiri-box. Japan, late Edo, second half of 19th century, probably around 1860. Condition: Fine (some wear and stains on the back of the scrolls). Dimentions (only picture frame): H. 104 cm W. 42 cm Total size with mounting H. 175 cm; W. 50 cm .

An oblong, lobed bowl of porcelain decorated w. familie rose glazes. The Eight Buddhist symbols of good luck and blessings decorate the sides. A somewhat sloppy Qianlong mark in the bottom. Qing, second half of 19th cent. (probably Xianfeng or Tongzhi). H 7 cm, L 18.5 cm. Condition: Excellent w. minor wear to the gilded rim.
