A ZEN painting in classical suiboku style, reminiscent of Sesshu ( 1420-1506 ), made by Kano Shoun (1637-1702). The painting is depicting a misty landscape with mountain, river and temple. Ink on paper. Inscribed and sealed Kano Shoun. Total scroll length 103 cm x 57,5 cm; picture size: H. 28 cm x W. 44 cm. Early Edo period. Condition: a few cracks and some worms holes due to age. Recently beautifully remounted.

An hanging scroll painting by IMAI TENROKU ( b. 1866 ) depicting DARUMA, the founder of Zen Buddhism, seen in profile. It is painted on silk in monochrome ink and gold. Inscribed and dated: Taisho tsuchinoto hitsuji (1919); signed and sealed TENROKU. Original inscribed box. H. 113 cm x W. 41 cm (only picture). Condition: very good.

Cloisonné enamel vase of high quality. Decorated with flowering prunus, garden rock and bamboo on cobalt blue ground. Two ornamental bands at rim and at base. No signature, but w. silver mark in the bottom rim. Meiji, ca. 1890. H 16 cm. Excellent condition.

A beautiful and well-preserved futon cover (futongawa or futonji) made of heavy cotton with the image of a large phoenix and stylized plants in vivid colours on the characteristic indigo ground (boro furoshiki). The pattern of the image has been made by applying a traditional stencil resist dye process known as katazome. The piece has been sewn together lengthwise by using four sections of cloth. A large album leaf with the painting of orchids and lingzhi in faint colours and ink on silk by the Qing monk Xuecha (fl. 19th cent.). No inscription, but the seal reads: “Xuecha the painter (Xuecha xiesheng).” Xuecha was a resident in the Yuanlü Temple in Shanghai where he had his studio. Mounted in an original, and quite attractive dark rosewood frame from the time. Qing, 19th cent. H. 26,5 cm. W. 38 cm. ( with frame: H. 42,5 cm. W. 57 cm). Condition: Very good (both painting and frame).

An attractive vase with ovoid shape made of dark, brown-patinated bronze. Decorated on the middle of the body with a landscape in raised relief. Partly inserted w. silver and copper. Signed: Oun. Late Meiji, 1900-1910. H. 26 cm, Diam. 10 cm. Condition: One minor bump on the lower part of the backside and a few scratches, otherwise fine.
