Exquisite woman’s outer coat (dayi) of fat, beige silk decorated with flower vases, butterflies, bats, scholar objects, snuff bottles and a four-claw dragon in a variety of techniques including embroidery, needle-loop work, appliqué, thick gold thread and woven silk bands. Although not belonging to a member of the imperial family, the quality of the coat is of the absolutely highest standard, and was probably worn by a woman from an important noble family or the wife of a wealthy merchant.
