A finely made vase of copper to hold incense sticks. Part of the altar fittings for a Buddhist shrine. Tibet, mid- to late 19th cent. H 11.5 cm. Condition: Excellent w. natural wear. No dents.
A portrait image of an elderly lama carved in box wood (?) holding scripture and the right hand raised in a gesture of teaching. Lacquer gilt with colours. Consecrated in the back. Tibet, 18–19th cent. H 15.5 cm. Condition: Excellent with some rubbing due to age and handling. No breaks or repairs.
A fine, small gilt bronze image depicting the Bodhisattva Vajradhara holding bell and vajra crossed in front of his chest. Inside the image are inserted prayer rolls. Tibet, 17th cent. H 7,3 cm. Condition: Very good but a very small casting hole to the back of hair and some rubbing to gold.
A fine and large ritual dagger (phurba) in carved wood with remaining traces of colors. The tip of the handle with a vajra-top. Used in Tantric Buddhist rituals for exorcism. Tibet, 19th cent. L 35 cm. Condition: Very good. Signs of wear.
Three uniform fragments cut from a larger thangka (result of the Cultural Revolution..) depicting the Bhadrakalpa Buddhas. Each image rendered similar to the others. Colors and ink on treated canvas. Central Tibet, 17–18th cent. Later mounting. Each fragment ca. H. 17 cm. W. 6 cm. (total: H. 17 cm, W. 19 cm).
A well sculptured wood piece depicting the head of the Dipankara Buddha, one of the most popular Nepalese divinities . Nepal, 18 to early 19th cent. H. 22 cm; W. 21 cm. Good patina; few age cracks.
A mandorla of hammered, open-work, gilt copper-repoussé backed with canvas. It is decorated with the images of the Sixteen Arhats and two larger images in the bottom center depicting a bodhisattva and an Arhat holding the pilgrim staff. Each figure with the face in cold gilt. Tibet, 16th cent. H 21 cm, W 20 cm. Condition: Very good (wear due to age). It is a real antique piece, not a modern copy!
A patinated, heavy cast bronze image of the Hindu god Indra seated in the position of royal ease. Indra holds a lotus flower in the left hand.The vertical, third eye indicates his divine status. Nepal, late 19th cent. to early 20th cent. H 15 cm. Condition: Good.
A three level stupa of classical style made of carved wood. It can be taken apart and inside are inserted old “darani” prayer rolls. Tibet, 19th cent. H 20 cm, 11 diam. 11,5 cm. Condition: top part missing otherwise fine.
An unusual tribal goddess of cast non-gilt brass. She holds a horse in the raised right hand and cradles a lion in the crook of her left arm. She is standing on a tiger, elephant and snake. Remains of votive colors. Nepal, 19th century. H 14.5 cm. Condition: Perfect (minor wear due to handling).
