A very nice shoe-shaped tea bowl of ceramic partly covered in iron-brown glaze with traces of black. Signed: So’an . Japan, late Edo ca. 1850. H 7.5 cm, L 13.5 cm. Condition: Excellent, but with an original firing flaw on upper part of inside well.

Large-size incense-box (kogo) of ivory in a nice rounded design. Opens in two with a finely carved thread. The inside with gold lacquer on black ground (a small piece of natural fragrant incense wood included). Fitted, old silk purse. Late Edo–early Meiji, 19. cent. H 3,5 cm, D 8 cm. Condition: Very fine. Wear to lacquer inside. No chips or cracks.

A small and very finely carved, Buddhist amulet box of tinted ivory with the images of Amida and the two accompanying Bodhisattvas Kannon and Seishi on the inside of the two parts. Signed: Ikko. The outside decorated with a lotus pond in low relief. Edo, early to middle of 19th cent. H 1.5 cm, D 4.6 cm. Condition: Very good with minor wear from use.

A highly attractive and rare item for the scholar’s table in the form of a miniature table made of lacquer inserted into a delicately worked silver frame (with silver mark = pure silver ). Decorated with a peach branch on the surface in raised and coloured lacquer on a brownish makie-e ground. Late Edo–early Meiji, 19. cent. L. 15 cm, D. 8 cm, H 3,5 cm. Condition: Over-all very good, with the exception of 2 minute chips in one corner (see pics 10).

The body naturalistically rendered and fully articulated with six-piece sectional tail, the antennae, legs, fins and eyes constructed of movable parts. Engraved signature Myochin. Long: 38,5 cm. (15,2 inches). (antennae included) Edo Period 19th Century. Very good condition with just some ware due to age and handling.

A fine lacquer ”kogo” - incense box. The lid is decorated with a humourous, playful ”shishi” - lion biting into a bowl; a red ribbon around it. The shishi is rendered in low relief golden lacquer with the eyes, thungs and claws inlaid in mother of pearl on a background of black and nashiji lacquer. Signed Wajima Genpo saku. Inscribed kiri-tomobako: Shishi makie kogo Wajima nuri. Diameter: 8,5 cm. Meiji. Condition: perfect.

A highly attractive nyoi sceptre in the form of a lingzhi fungus (rekishi) made from a natural piece of gnarled wood. The piece has been polished and lacquered, but is otherwise un-modified. Japan, Edo, 18–19th cent. L 21.5 cm. Condition: Excellent with a fine patina from natural wear.
