A superb and unique seal made of black soapstone (shoushanshi) depicting a spirited dragon clinging to a rock that rises from the waves. Signed on one side with artist’s name. Japan, Edo, 18th cent. H 5,8 cm. Condition: Perfect (natural wear due to handling).

A rare and highly attractive scholar’s model of the mountain Kozuyama in stoneware. Shiny black glaze w. spots of brownish iron. Incised name in the bottom: Hakuseki yasohachi shi. Original box w. collector’s labels. Japan, Edo, 19th cent. H 9.5 cm, L 22 cm, W 16.5 cm. Condition: One chip to side (see photo), otherwise fine.
