Large, finely painted tsakli depicting the naked Naro-dakini standing in the traditional pose on supine figures representing vanquished Hindu divinities. She drinks from a skull cup and holds the chopper with the other hand. Over her shoulder she holds the skull staff. Late 18th to early 19th cent. In open frame. H 22 cm, W 17.5 cm (excluding frame). Small, exquisitely painted thangka depicting the dancing, Blue Vajravarahi Dakini standing on a corpse and surrounded by the other four dakinis in yellow, white, green and red. Above the central image is the 5th Dalai Lama, indicating that the thangka is a votive image of the Gelugpa School of Tibetan Buddhism. Early to mid-19th cent. In open frame. Small votive NARO DAKINI MANDALA thangka for placing horizontally on the altar. In the center, a stylized lotus which sits in the middle of a hexagonal star-shape. Divided into four different sections and w. the over-all arrangement conforming to the concept of the Five Buddha families (kula). In the outer rim double circle with eight panels depicting yogis practicing on the charnel ground indicating that the mandala was in all likelihood meant for use in a Tantric Buddhist rite. 17–18th cent. Small, very finely painted thangka of the Gelugpa School, most probably depicting one of the Dalai Lama, seated in full regalia on a high-backed seat. He is holding a vajra ( right hand ) and a ganta (left hand ) in the same way as Vajrasattva is represented, and a ritual stuff (khatvanga) on each of his sides, meaning that he is a Tantric practitioner. A very rare, natural piece of burl-wood in the form of a large peony flower (mudan hua) for the scholar's table. Only the flower stem has been carved and has a small crack in the wood. The wood has a deep, dark purple color and a wonderful old patina. Middle Qing Dinasty, ca. 1750-1800. L. 17.5 cm, H. 11.5 cm. Good condition otherwise.
