A painting showing a flying crane above a lotus pond. Ink and faint colors on silk. Signed: Ban Yuan (pen name for the Qing painter Liu Yuan (1662–1722), a Henan painter from Kaifeng). A hollow-cast bronze image of the bodhisattva Avalokitesvara (Guanyin). On either shoulder parrot and kundika-vase. Fairly good details. The image is covered in dark, brown patina with remains of gilt and color. Late Ming, ca. 1600. H 26 cm. Condition: Very good all-over with two minor holes to base (original casting flaws).
Small, cylindrical brushpot (bitong) of carved boxwood (huangyangmu bitong) with multiple bands and grooves running around the body. Qing, mid-19th cent. H 10.5 cm. Condition: Fine with great, deep honey patina (minor chips due to age & handling).
A large tray of deep red mahogany (hongmu) inlaid with mother-of-pearl. Decorated with a landscape with sage-like persons on a lake shore. The inscription reads: ‘The Seven Sages of the Bamboo Groove.’ Probably made in Southern China. Qing, first half of 19th cent. L 62 cm, W 44 cm. Condition: Fair (two sections of inlays lost).
A piece of massive ivory carved as a fantasy landscape with detailed renderings of pastoral life complete with village, people attending at various work (fishing, picking fruits, feeding ducks), lotus and fish pond, pavilions and large willow trees. etc. set on a boat-like form imitating a tree trunk. Late Qing, ca. 1900. L 31 cm, H 8 cm. Condition: Excellent (one minor, but superficial hairline on the back side).
A pair of finely painted porcelain placards in polychrome enamels mounted in wooden frames. Both depicting landscapes in Southern China. Both feature poetic impressions and signatures indicating that they were painted by members of the Zhushan group of porcelain artists.Both with seals: :Zheng" and "Yin". Both with flower frames and dated 1967(dingwei nian). Peoples Republic of China. H 30,7 cm, W 22 cm. Condition: Excellent.
A well-carved boxwood (huangyangmu) ruyi-sceptre in the form of a lingzhi with lesser mushrooms sprouting from the handle. Good, deep honey patina. At the bottom of the handle a hole from which tassels originally were hung. Qing, 19th cent. L 32,5 cm. Condition: Very good with minor wear. No breaks or repairs.
A rare hardwood image carved in high relief, depicting the standing bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara with 11 heads (Ekadasamukha). He has three rows peaceful heads topped with the head of wrathful Mahakala and buddha Amitabha. He is depicted with four pair of hands, the central pair of hands held in prayer, the left lower hand holding a water pot, the right lower hand held with palm outwards, the others a lotus flower, a bow and an arrow and a dharma wheel. An elegant incense burner (koro) of dark-patinated bronze with three long legs and a pair of raised ears on the shoulders of the flattened, ovoid body. The lid in openwork. Decorated on upper body and lid with various scholar’s seals, the two largest in low relief, the rest with inlaid lines in copper thread. Meiji, before 1900. H 13 cm, D 10 cm. Condition: Very fine with minor wear due to age.
A beautiful & quite large famille rose teapot ( chahu). The teapot has been decorated with group of persons: an old man, a lady with a small child in her arms, a young man, a child and a dog; they encounter a farmer on the road. The backside with calligraphy. Original metal handles. Bottom with artist´s seal mark on the base. H. 12 cm (without handles), W. 18 cm. Late Qing Dynasty, 19th cent. Good condition, no restoration or repair.
