Fine, signed lacquer ”kogo” with playful Shishi, Meiji
A fine lacquer ”kogo” - incense box. The lid is decorated with a humourous, playful ”shishi” - lion biting into a bowl; a red ribbon around it. The shishi is rendered in low relief golden lacquer with the eyes, thungs and claws inlaid in mother of pearl on a background of black and nashiji lacquer. Signed Wajima Genpo saku. Inscribed kiri-tomobako: Shishi makie kogo Wajima nuri. Diameter: 8,5 cm. Meiji. Condition: perfect.
