Shino tea bowl (chawan) made by TANAKA Akihiro
An attractive and very sophisticated tea bowl (chawan) made of modern Shino stoneware by ceramic maker Tanaka Akihiko (b. 1954) from Gifu. The bowl is shaped w. a deep, cylindrical well on a low foot. The piece is covered in a thick, white-bluish ash glaze over a stylized decoration in iron resulting in a beautiful finish and an interesting texture. Signed w. artists’ seal “Gen” in the bottom (see photo). Original, signed kiri-box including paper documentation. Made ca. 1985. H 9 cm, D 11 cm. Condition: Perfect.
