| A small but attractive image of a small, flute-playing boy riding on the back of a water buffalo made of bronze w. a dark, brown lacquered patina. The depicted theme has been taken from the series of Ox-herding Pictures, a popular didactic account of the adept’s progress towards enlightenment according to Chan (Zen) Buddhism. Qing, first half of 19th century. H 13.5 cm, L 13 cm. Condition: Very good w. slight rubbing due to handling. The flute, which was cast separately is missing. | ||||||||||||
