A rare Eastern French FAIENCE plate in red-pink, green, and blue enamels of a noble fierce eagle wearing a crown from the Strasbourg region, Les Islettes or Luneville, dating to early 19th century.
The plate is exceptional in detail, finely painted and superbly colored in the enamels typical of Eastern French faience of the 18th century. The fiesty eagle symbolizes Napoleon. If so the plate dates accuarately expect the date 1810, before Napoleon was defeated by Wellington at Waterloo in 1815. The 8.34 Inch plate is in very fine condition except for some very minor edge glaze wear or loss, typical of early faience.
Dimnsions: 8.34 Inches

An unusual French hand painted porcelain portrait plate, circa 1860 of a beautiful French girl, barefoot, spinning yarn onto a bobbin. The figure is dressed in provincal costume, and poses amidst a lovely pastoral scene. The artist has signed the plate on the right bottom, though readable it is hard to decipher the handwritting. The plate bears an unusual backstamp of a heraldric lion with shield and banner, several impressed hallmarks. There is a manufacturers name, but it is obliterated.
