Refined Edo to the Japanese taste, this {7"(18cm), by 6 1/2" wide} soft gray blue crackle underglaze vase is highlighted by dark cobalt (ruri yu), iron red and white enameled blossoms, and dark green leaves. Here is an unbelievable 18th century Quanyin (Guanyin) carrying a flowering lotus,of fine translucent RHINOCEROUS HORN,purchased earlier this year from a respected and advanced collector, selling his collections due to retirement.
Rhino horn is not true horn, rather a finger nail like tissue and deeply compressed hair.
PHOTO & shown here is of a similar Qwanyin figural sold at auction November, 2005 at Chaffins Auction Gallery London. I will include the file for interested parties.
DIMENSIONS: 10" curved...
CONDITION: Gentle and appropriate patina from much loved handling of the Goddess of Mercy.
