LACQUER TEA CEREMONY BOX 19th century, JAPANESE
Here is a mid 19th century JAPANESE TEA CEREMONY box featuring a charming rendition of sleeping Buddha with his bag used as a large pillow. Rendered to the Japanese taste, this exquisite lacquer box includes a bordered gilt tray with a subtle spray of tied chrysanthemums and leaves. The reverse of tray,lid and box interior are dusted with a gilt bronze nashiji ground. Condition is very fine, with very minor wear to gilt on edges, appropriate for a work of this period. Photos do not capture the whimsical nature of this stunning box .Additional photos upon request. Dimensions:The covered box 6 1/2"(15.50cm) length;width 3 5/8"(9cm), and the height is 4"(10cm) .
