In the northeast part of Chinese Changbai Mountain area, the Tianchi Lake locates in the middle with 2700 meters above the sea level and a circumference around 13 km. It is in the shape of ellipse with 200m deep in average. It is said that it is as deep as 373m in the center. Surrounded by 16 hills, Tianchi Lake is like a piece of jade embedded in the mountains. Besides water, only huge rocks can be seen in the surrounding of Tianchi Lake.
The lake and neighbor areas are covered with snow 258 days every year. In ancient history it mentioned the Tianchi Lake never froze year round………
This art work Tianchi-1 from Lu Weisun is the best piece of using celadon to describe the beautiful sight.
The Tianchi-1 is one of the museum class contemporary Longquan celadon art works.
Due to the nature of the clay, celadon from Longquan kiln needs at least 1300 Celsius degrees temperature in firing. The floating glaze is totally out of control at that temperature not to mention managing the final presentation.
The creation of The Tianchi-1 used an innovated but extremely difficult layer-after-layer approach by Longquan celadon clay. The success rate up to this point before glazing was less than 10 percent which based on the ceramist’s estimation.
The glazing process of The Tianchi-1 was another challenge. Lu Weisun used unique white color glaze to represent the snow. The rest of the celadon color was the grasses undercover.
Up to present only a few The Tianchi art works of this kind succeeded.
The Tianchi-1 is in perfect condition except one natural crack of glaze at the top bowl. There is a Lu Weisun’s signature on base with certificate signed and original box form his workshop.

Lu Weisun was born in 1962 at Longquan City of Zhejiang Province. He started his potter career at Celadon Research Institution of Longquan since his graduation from local ceramics professional school in 1983. After few years work Lu Weisun went to the Ceramics Department of China Art Academy for further study the in-depth theory and advance skills. In 1997 Lu built his workshop and kiln after his career at Celadon Research Institution of Longquan.
Lu Weisun's celadon artworks not only exhibit a natural, decent and classic sense of style, his many experiences in twisting both Ge and Di kiln clays had produced new and unique helical pattern that was authentically Lu Weisun's innovation. Moreover Lu is praised one of the best few potting masters within modern Chinese ceramists. The outstanding result partially came from his continuous work and study during the days as Research Director at Celadon Research Institution of Longquan.
Lu Weisun is a true celadon artist who concentrates all his effort in potting innovation. He believes that simple is beautiful. He not only keeps challenging the limitation of Longquan celadon size but put many innovations during the potting process. It is said that Lu Weisun’s artwork visual effect starts from few minutes’ close watching. The observer will be inspired from the combination of shape, color tone and glaze pattern.
As today Lu Weisun is the Art and Craft Master of Zhejiang Province in China.
