About Xu Chao-Xing

Since last century when Chinese government began awarding the title of China Arts & Crafts Master (similar to the Japanese Living National Treasure) to craftsmen, Xu Chao-Xing was the first ceramics guru who specialized in Longquan celadon to reach this summit in 1996.

Xu Chao-Xing was born in Longquan City of Zhejiang Province in 1943. He started the potter career since teenage as the worker in state-owned celadon factory. He learned almost everything from the Republic Period celadon guru Li Huai-De. Xu Chao-Xing is the best few of Li¡¯s apprentice that acknowledged by the collectors in Greater China region, Japan and Korea.

Xu Chao-Xing 's celadon artworks not only exhibit a classic and precise sense of style, his unique reproduction to ancient wood ash glaze combine the implement ¡®Slanting Knife¡¯ technique won him the top position in the field. Not to mention the traditional celadon plum-green glaze in all kinds of artwork.

During Xu Chao-Xing's working tenure in state-owned factory his artworks had been praised by collectors all over Asia. Due to the recognition from international society Xu was assigned to produce the diplomatic gift for the government since early 90¡¯. One of his stunning reproduction artworks was chose by Chinese General Post Office stamp design in 1998. His stunning artworks also collected and exhibited by Zhi Guang Ge in Zhong Nan Hai(Chinese Presidential Office), People¡¯s Great Hall in Beijing, Chinese Art & Craft Museum and Celadon Museum of Longquan City.

In October 2006 Xu Chao-Xing held his 50-year celadon career anniversary exhibition at Hangzhou, the capital of Zhejiang Province in China. Total 80 pieces of stunning artworks were displayed in China Art Academy that attracted fans from all over the world. A gallery owner from New York offered two million U.S. Dollars to acquire all the 80 pieces but did not accomplish the deal. Xu¡¯s artworks therefore establish the highest price tag in contemporary celadon ceramics.
