Unusual c 1780-1790 Derby Imari plate with overglaze enamels depicting a naive notion of what Japanese Imari should look like. Two sets of blue branches with chestnuts, blue and green leaves, all outlined in gilt. Derby seems to have copied several mid Edo patterns c 1750. In the center, a pair of scrolling branches with reddish brown chestnuts attached. Molded plate has a scalloped edge and was supported in the kiln by three small spurs, which have left their marks under the rim. The rounde ...click for details
