Decorated in underglaze cobalt blue with a "lakescape depicting a pavilion on a promontory beside a willow tree above a lateen-rigged junk and a triple-arched bridge leading to an island with twinned conifer and deciduous trees, the background with smaller islands and dwellings." A fine sepia bat printed “Bute form” milk jug decorated with a pattern of figures in a landscape on one side set against a vista of a wind mill on a hill, church tower in the valley and cottage in the foreground, and on the obverse side a three arched bridge spanning a river with building on the bank with fine mercury gilded banding. A superb example of an elegantly proportioned Italian porcelain tea bowl and saucer produced at the Nove manufactory, circa 1780. The factory was opened at Le Nove, near Bassano, about twenty-five miles northwest of Venice by Pasquale Antonibon in 1752 and continued to 1835, and specialised in porcelain made for the wealthy Venetian market. Small handleless Caughley tea bowl and saucer bearing the Caughley version of the 'Fisherman' design. This form was also popular at the Worcester factory. See Geoffrey A. Godden's CAUGHLEY & WORCESTER PORCELAINS 1775-1800. Thinly potted and fragile. Cup is about 3" (7.5cm) wide x 1.875" (4.5cm). Saucer is about 5" (12.5cm) wide x 1" (2.5cm). Condition is excellent.
