A fine Meiji Satsuma pottery vase with superb overglaze enamel decoration by two of the period's foremost artists, the potter Taizan Yohei IX, and the painter Kono Bairei. This work of art captures the mystical feeling of the beginning of autumn symbolized by the flight of migrating geese through gossamer clouds of gold against a full moon. Set of five signed, hand-painted octagonal Mokubei style bowls, c. 1850-1890. Decorated with iron red, green, yellow, blue and aubergine enamels highlighted with gold. About 5" (12.5cm) W x 2.125" (5.5cm). High definition photos of all five on request. Mokubei (1767-1833) was one of the three great potters of Kyoto, Ninsei and Kenzan being the other two. Excellent condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. Our price includes shipping from Hawaii.
