A fine pair of turquoise Cloisonne vases with subtle wireless cloiosonne, musen work, to their necks of shippo style motifs. They were made by Ando and date to the Showa period, mid 20th century. Each vases stands 15cm high or just under 6 inches and weighs 800 gm, and so comparatively heavy for their size. The neck and bases of the vases have silver coloured metal rimmed mounts. A finely painted baluster shaped vase decorated with an image of Mount Fuji in a combination of resist, fukizumi, spray, and applied slip techniques. The Mountain is defined from the foreground by a line of slip, perhaps tube-lining, which can be felt through the glaze. An unusual larger covered bowl superbly hand painted with a Kenjo-te aka-dama, red ball, pattern that originally dates to the early Eighteenth century. The covered bowl dates to the Showa period circa 1950 and has the three character mark of Imaemon Imaizumi XIIIth (see page 29 no 21 Modern and Contemporary Marks of Hizen Porcelain – The Kyushu Ceramic Museum).
