An early Ai Kakiemon large dish of oval elliptical form on a relatively high foot decorated in underglaze cobalt blue with a pattern of tako-karakusa interspersed with Lotus mon and an Artemisia leaf with tassel and cords, The reverse decorated with stylised lotus arabesques, Karakusa, and a comb pattern to the foot, and a Chinese style six-character Chenghua mark. A very finely gilded and enamelled small bowl with slightly incurving rim. The bowl is decorated with foliate Kinrande style arabesque, characteristic of Chinese porcelain of the Jiajing period, with elaborate Aoi mon inset with a further lotus motif. Inserted within this ground are two reserves. Fine Ko Imari Ryu-mon Abalone Shaped Plate c.1740 A large awabigata, abalone shaped, dish of typical form decorated with a very unusual pattern of a sinuous dragon partially obscured by clouds chasing a flaming pearl, with additional gilt outlined enamels. This is an early example of this form dating to the period 1730-50, as shown by the reverse pattern of sailing ships and waves. The plate measures 22.5cm by 20cm, and stands approximately 3.5cm high. A fine Arita “Ai Kakiemon” nagazara or long dish decorated with a tako karakusa, Octopus scroll pattern, dating circa 1680-1710. The reverse decorated with kara-kusa motifs, and a spiral fuku within a double square, the rim dressed with an iron brown fuchi beni glaze. The dish is in excellent condition, no cracks, chips or restoration. It measure 21.8cm in length and 10cm in width. Please see images. Shipping at cost.

A very unusual Arita barber’s bowl dating to the second quarter of the 18th century. A small label underneath bares the legend “Emperors Shaving Bowl, Hirado”, and I think a partially illegible yen price. The provenance may be a bit unlikely, but what at first sight appears to be a characteristic European form has some very clearly Japanese motifs. A very finely painted Ko Imari bowl and cover decorated with Kirin, Shou medallions and a Tojin, a foreigner. It is difficult to tell but the figure may be intended to represent a Korean Official, from the figures distinctive long and exaggerated sleeves and high brimmed hat with distinctive projecting side-pieces. A fine pair of Chinese Buddhist Lions, Fu Dogs, or auspicious lions each with a tall taper or incense stick holder attached to its back. Both are decorated with famille rose enamels dating to the second half of the Eighteenth century and the reign of the Emperor Qianlong. Both are in good condition with no chips, cracks or other damage apart from some wear in places to the enamels commensurate with their age. They stand approximately nine inches high.
