Fine early 17th century Chinese export Kraak plate, made at Jingdezhen. About 8.125" (21.5cm) diameter. Border VII.3 as classified by Rinaldi in "Kraak Porcelain -- A Moment in the History of Trade" (see p. 106). Dishes found in the Hatcher Cargo belong to this group. A sturdily constructed Henan stoneware bottle with slightly iridescent glaze. About 5-1/2" H x 4-1/4" W at shoulder. Excellent condition and color with no damage. A brownish slip glaze was applied to the biscuit and a second darker glaze applied over it. As you may see, chocolate brown shows through mainly at the shoulder, mouth and base. Additional images on request. Henan black glazed wares date from the Song through the Qing dynasties. Insured shipping at cost.
