A Meji period Imari dish of hexagonal form painted in underglaze cobalt blue with grey and iron brown enamels. Decorated with a clock face the chapter ring with roman numerals and the rim with Hoo birds, ume, prunus blossom and pine branches and cones. A rare Ai Kutani, Blue Kutani, dish painted with a very unusual pattern of a single iris within a reserve juxtaposed against a dense brocade of Hoo birds in stylised foliage showing the application of the mid 17C Japanese aesthetic qualities of ma (emptiness and space) and kabuku (asymmetry and the unusual). The dish is 7.25 inches in diameter or 18.5cms, the reverse is decorated with two cherry sprigs and a square fuku seal. A fine set of five soba choku or wine cups decorated with an iron red ground of bamboo fonds inset with pine trees in underglaze blue and gilt and warabishi pine bark shaped reserves containing cherry blossom motifs within a seeded green ground, and cloud shaped reserves containing ume prunus trees in bilt and iron red. A good Ko Imari Arita export beaker or chocolate cup and stand decorated with an under-glaze blue ground decorated with gilt chrysanthemums with four reserves painted with Cherry blossom and Mandarin oranges in gilt. The beaker stands 7cm in height, and 7.5cm in diameter and the saucer is 15cm in diameter. The beaker and saucer date to the period 1700-1720. In good condition with no chips, cracks or restoration. A good Japanese Ko Imari tea bowl and saucer of cha sen size made for export to the Europe during the early Eighteenth century. The bowl and saucer are decorated in a palette of underglaze blue, iron red, green enamel and gilt with Chrysanthemum sprays. The tea bowl and saucer date to circa 1720. A good scalloped rimmed dish dating to the early 18th century decorated in underglaze cobalt blue with a hagi karakusa style lotus pattern to the rim insent with reserves containing matsu pine trees and in the centre a go-benka motif. To the reverse a continuous lotus croll and a large kaku fuku mark. The dish dates to the early eighteenth century. A rare English soft paste porcelain copy of a Ko Imari Kakiemon type shurogata hemp palm form dish decorated with a pattern of chesnuts. This style of dish has been attributed to the Kakiemon kiln in the Nangawara valley based on hump moulds used at the kiln; a similar dish is illustrated in the Kakiemon volume of the Shibata Collection.
