Chinese Export Canton Gravy Boat and Tray
Double-handled gravy boat with attached underplate. "Orange peel" glaze. Decorated in underglaze cobalt blue with a "lakescape depicting a pavilion on a promontory beside a willow tree above a lateen-rigged junk and a triple-arched bridge leading to an island with twinned conifer and deciduous trees, the background with smaller islands and dwellings." (Christie's catalog for the Diana Cargo, c. 1816) No cracks or hairlines. Typical rough spots on handle have been reglazed. A few frits and one shallow chip to foot. A rare form c. 1820. Tray is about 9.25 x 4. Gravy boat is about 8 x 7.5 x 4 H overall. Additional images on request. Insured shipping at cost.
