This was a 19th century trade sign for a livery. The zinc composition horse head is highly detailed and very dimensional. Along with having a very life like bone structure, he has a kind eye and a wonderful docile expression. Coldpainted in a muted gold finish. This is a Stoneware Horse Shoe Jug from The Cleveland Pottery Company carrying the "Stiles Patent" from the late 1890's.Dated May 10, 1892. Incredible condition. There was an article written on this jug July issue by Jack Sullivan entitled "Evolution of a ceramic jug in 2003. Stands 8 1/4" to the top of the handle, 3 3/4" deep and is 6" wide.
