This watch is adapted from one of the foremost paintings from this period, “Persistence of Memory”, by Salvador Dali (1931). Based on Dali’s childhood memory of visiting a doctor who asked to see his tongue, the melted watch is a play on the French words "montrer" (to show) and "langue" (tongue) which Dali interpreted as "montre" (watch) and "langueur" (languish).
