A wonderful antique (late Ch'ing Dynasty) Chinese elephant ivory cencer with original removeable presentation stand. Sadly the fu atop the removeable lid has a chipped ear and one of the faces on the body has damage to the jaw so it no longer holds the ring. I do however have the ring so it could be repaired by a skilled craftsman. It has wonderful cross hatching expecially on the rim where it is not carved heavily. Reasonable offers considered. This is a late Ch'ing Dynasty Chinese carved elephant tusk with rather a rare subject, a fancy peacock standing atop folliage. Excellent condition except for a good repair to the right ankle and foot. No other damage or losses. Nice age patina. A good even yellowing as seen in some old ivories. This is truely a museum quality work of art in the form of an elephant tusk ivory Chinese carving. Made from one solid chunk of tusk to include the protruding swords. Two warriors stand atop a woman who is flowing with grace near the base. The stand is attached and is original. This is a late ching, or qing dynasty carving so it was most likely done without the aid of electric tools. A superb circa 1890 Chinese elephant ivory carving of Kwanyin with a nude boy at her feet. Carved from one solid piece of tusk this carving is extremely well done down to the stream of water pouring from her vase. It is large standing 14 1/2 inches tall on the attached wooden stand and standing 11 3/4 inches for the ivory alone. There is no damage and no restorations. Please note, however, that the stand is a bit loose on the ivory.
