An imperial Daoguang period Yangzhou pink overlay snuff bottle with unusual detail and subject matter. The pink glass overlaid on white was finely carved to show 2 boys at a game and 2 birds perhaps in a mating dance. Bats frame the composition. The pink was carved thicker at the top of the bottle, progressively thinner to the bottom to yield a transition from dark to lighter hue. A tour de force for Yangzhou carving. Carnelian top, also carved. About 1850. ...click for details

Sold, thank you.

Guangxu period pebble form snuff bottle so realistic that the Peking glass can be mistaken for a pebble. This is a nice old one with silky smooth surface from years of handling. Bottle is well hollowed, and in fact may have held opium at one time as the black residue in the neck suggests. Brownish color is not damage, color in the glass and some from inner residue. Good sized triangular bottom makes for stable standing. Nice cat's eye stopper with a bone spoon. ...click for details
