A fine Japanese carved ivory letter opener in the shape of an oriental sword. It has unusual relief carvings covering most of the blade, excellent detail. Also a sterling plate with conforming decorations and a blank space for a monogram. Meiji era.
A serene contemplative buddha seated on a lotus throne dating to late Meiji era. He is most likely the Daibutsu in Kamakura. Nice ivory tone with a touch of yellow. A single character on the bottom. Carving is both graceful and fine. See the folds on the robe and the fingers. Also nice detail along the bottom edge. Includes fitted wooden stand. A faint age line on the bottom, not unusual for a solid block of ivory.
