An antique Japanese satsuma tazza (compote) of rare and vigorous form. It has a scalloped bowl rather like chrysanthemum petals. The broad pedestal is pierced. A striking Meiji era (1868-1912) Japanese vase with a deep cobalt enamel blue ground. Two very lively dragons are coiled around each other on each side of the vase. These dragons are in relief on the white biscuit. Outstanding quality and sharpness of detail is such that I'd almost say Hirado. In any case it is excellent Arita ware.
