A wonderful 19-20th century Chinese tea set or wine set consisting of a teapot, 4 matching cups and a tray. Very nicely painted dragon and phoenix facing off with the flaming pearl of wisdom between them. Same motif on the little handless cups and the gently lobed tray. Reverse side of the teapot has a poem and the house signature. Backstamp of the Jiangxi porcelain maker, site of all the famous porcelain kilns in China. A sweet famille rose or jaune antique Chinese enamel teapot with central lotus blossoms on both sides and a cute finial. Neat finial on the lid. This is a famous 18th century form and theme for an individual teapot. The seal mark is Ch'ien Lung (Qianlong). But this one was made somewhere 1890-1920s in other words late Ch'ing or Early Republic of China (1911-1930s). The enamels are fresh and thick. The dark tea stain inside the spout testifies to the age.

This is a very rare one! a tapered square form handled winecup commemorating the 1932 coronation of the Emperor of Manchuko, generally known as a puppet state established by the Japanese government out of the Manchurian provinces of China in the prelude to WWII. The puppet emperor was the deposed former Emperor (P'u Yi) of all China before the Chinese Revolution.
