--------------------------- Note about American elegant depression glass.
The American elegant glass makers such as Heisey, Duncan Miller, Cambridge, Morgantown, Fostoria and Tiffin displaced the American cut glass makers as dominant forces in the market in the early 20th century. Using factory methods instead of hand cutting, they reduced cost and increased output. The crystal quality was good, and using primarily etchings and transfers, they produced excellent designs. Tiffin was famous for its extensive line of stemware. The elegant glass industry was in turn pretty much wiped out by imports by the end of the 1950s. Only the very low quality and very high volume manufacturers remained to compete today.

Typically, the elegant crystal glass is quite thin compared to imports today, with a pleasant ring. The quality of glass and patterns are fine and detailed. They are very good values today when you can find them. Tiffins and Morgantowns can be particularly refined, and stack up very favorably against todays Waterford and Bacarat.
