American Marine Ship Battle Painting Tray

An exceptional and rare sea battle painted by an artist on a 30" x 22" papier mache tray. The foreground is completely dominated by the canon fire & enveloping smoke around the 2 tall ships engaged broadside. One is flying the French flag and the other appears to be a Nordic country flag. Other masts peer over the mist. The painting itself was done by an accomplished marine artist, though unsigned. Really good wave action and ships rendering. The holes in the sails are from the battle not damage on the tray! Looks like the beginning of the fight not too many holes yet! Look at the close-up picture. Nice Greek key border all around.

Very good condition a tiny bit of wear from the years. The back is fixed up with a wire between 2 hangers. (Note white rectangle is a paper tag on the back.)

A good 125 to 150 years anyway. This is a wonderful antique marine scene on any wall. Rare to find on papier mache ware.

Do email if you have any questions or need more pictures.
