A fine Chinese sweetmeat or candy container from the early turn of the century 1880-1920s. It is of cylindrical form with 2 stacking layers and a cover, on a pedestal. The cover has a beautiful water landscape with a cute fisherman in a boat with his pole. It is an idyllic Chinese scholar scene. Look at the exceptional detail in the close-up. Around the cylinder are lotus flowers and other auspicious symbols. No marks.
5.5"H x 3.3" diameter. Very good condition with no cracks hairlines or repairs. This was made from the Early Republic of China period. Outstanding porcelain were made and decorated by recognized artists. While unsigned, this one was clearly painted by an accomplished artist. A very hard to find and unusual stacker for the aficionado of the period! |
