An elegant Song Dynasty (960-1279 ad) Cizhou jar with a petaled cover. A simple but vigorous bamboo sprig decorates the front. Good creamy color from the slip. Note: Cizhou decorations are prized for the free form brush painting on ceramic surface (just like calligraphy or painting on paper.)
About 6" high to finial and 6" across. A tight hairline running across the center, it is in good condition. |
